Karate is a Japanese martial art that belongs to the budo tradition and originates from Okinawa, an island south of Japan. Karate is believed to come from kung-fu, which was introduced by Chinese practitioners. There are several different styles within karate. The largest karate styles are Shotokan, Kyokushin, Wado Ryu and Goju Ryu. As a martial art, karate is mainly focused on powerful punches, blocks and kicks.
